In-office whitening
A professional-strength peroxide gel applied in short sessions during a single visit, often with light activation. Results are visible the same day. Best for: weddings, events, patients who want a single dramatic change. Some patients experience temporary sensitivity for 24–48 hours.
Take-home professional trays
Custom-molded trays paired with professional-strength gel, worn 30 minutes to overnight depending on the formula, for 1–2 weeks. Best for: gradual brightening, deeper stains, and maintenance after in-office whitening.
Over-the-counter strips
Roughly one-third the strength of professional formulas, with a generic tray fit. Useful for maintenance between professional treatments, but unlikely to deliver dramatic change.
Will whitening work on my teeth?
External staining (coffee, tea, wine, tobacco) responds well to whitening. Internal staining (tetracycline, fluorosis, trauma) often does not — for those cases, porcelain veneers may be the better path. Existing crowns, veneers, and bonded fillings do not whiten; only natural enamel does. Whiten first, then color-match restorations.
